North Bennington, VT

North Bennington is an incorporated village in the town of Bennington with 1,716 residents in the 2020 census. The Walloomsac River marks the southern edge, and the village boundary cuts across the grounds of Bennington College, giving the place a mix of village streets, campus land, and river corridor. Its historic district holds 164 contributing buildings and two sites, so the old architecture is part of the village’s basic shape rather than a single preserved block. Park-McCullough is the big local reference point. The 1864–65 mansion was built by Trenor Park, later home to two Vermont governors; after the family era ended, most of the former 800-acre estate went to the Fund for North Bennington for agricultural use and public access, with trails running behind the house.

On ordinary days, residents also have Lions Park’s ballfield, playground, skate park, and basketball court, plus Walloomsac access at McWaters Park and Lake Paran access at Welling Field. The McCullough Free Library and manufacturers including PortaBrace add a working layer.
