North Braddock, PA

North Braddock is an Allegheny County borough on the Monongahela River, organized from Braddock Township in 1897 around Andrew Carnegie’s Edgar Thomson Steel Works. Before the mills, the same valley held farms and traders; John Frazier acquired land there in the 1740s from Queen Aliquippa and the Lenape. Ground was broken for the steel works in 1873, and the plant began producing rails two years later, giving the borough its “Birthplace of Steel” claim. North Braddock is a Pittsburgh-area borough where a steel mill, river slope, and frontier-era land story occupy the same ground.
