About North Crossett
North Crossett is an unincorporated CDP just north of the city of Crossett in Ashley County. It shares the Crossett school system with the larger community, while a smaller portion falls in the Hamburg district. The place is easiest to understand as one of the residential extensions that grew around Crossett’s late-19th-century timber town. Crossett Lumber Company was incorporated in 1899, and the city’s forest-products history shaped the surrounding North, South, and West Crossett areas as the population spread beyond the original company town.
The schools and services most residents use are tied to the larger Crossett area rather than gathered into a separate downtown. Seven miles south, the Crossett Experimental Forest has been running research since 1934, another reminder that this part of Ashley County is organized around working forests as much as town streets. North Crossett’s local character is that in-between position: its own census place, but part of the everyday Crossett orbit. It is a place with a distinct name on the map and a close connection to the timber town that gave the surrounding area its shape.
