North Hyde Park, VT

North Hyde Park is a small Lamoille County community spread along Vermont Route 100 and the Gihon River, six miles north of Hyde Park village. The river carries the place west into the Lamoille watershed, while the road keeps the community tied to Johnson, Eden, and the rest of the county. It is one of those Vermont places whose identity is partly geographic: the Gihon, the wooded hills, and the long north-south road do as much naming as any formal boundary. The community's post office opened in 1839, decades before the census-designated place was drawn for the 2020 count.

The river also left North Hyde Park a bridge story. A covered bridge once crossed the Gihon here, joining the local road network in the familiar Vermont fashion of timber, water, and winter travel. Today the community is shared among Hyde Park and Johnson, with portions reaching toward Eden, and its residents live in a landscape shaped by farms, forests, and the river corridor. North Hyde Park is a small northern Vermont settlement with an old postal address, a covered-bridge tradition, and a route that follows the water toward the Lamoille.
