About North Light Plant
North Light Plant is an unincorporated census-designated place in San Juan County, New Mexico, with New Mexico State Road 574 running through the community. The 2020 census counted 556 residents. Its small geographic footprint sits within the wider school and service landscape of the Farmington-Aztec area, placing the community in northwestern New Mexico’s San Juan County network.
School boundaries divide North Light Plant between Aztec Municipal Schools and Farmington Municipal Schools. Aztec serves the majority, and Aztec High School is the local high school for that section; a smaller portion belongs to Farmington’s much larger district. Aztec Municipal Schools supplies the majority section through nearby campuses, while Farmington’s district covers the smaller section across San Juan County. That split gives the CDP a practical structure even without an incorporated town government. Road 574, the two school districts, and nearby Aztec and Farmington define the daily geography of a place that is counted separately locally but connected to larger regional systems.
