North Plainfield, NJ

Tucked right below the Watchung Mountains in Somerset County, North Plainfield packs a lively energy into less than three square miles. With around 23,000 residents, it has the feel of a compact, active community with tight-knit neighborhoods. One of the first things newcomers need to know is the distinction between North Plainfield and the neighboring city of Plainfield. Even though their streets connect seamlessly and share similar names, they are separate municipalities in different counties. North Plainfield belongs to Somerset County with its own local government, public school district, and property tax structure, while Plainfield's downtown and train station sit just across the county border in Union County.
