About Northampton
Northampton is a Southampton Town hamlet and census-designated place between Riverside, Flanders, Eastport, Westhampton, and the Town of Brookhaven. Its identity is set by the Pine Barrens: nearly the entire hamlet lies inside the Central Pine Barrens Core Preservation Area, and the land is mostly forest, wetlands, and scattered homes. Riverhead-Moriches Road is the main route. A small residential cluster gathers around Wildwood Lake, with homes set back from narrow streets and often screened by established trees. The absence of a commercial center means neighboring hamlets supply most shopping and services.
Northampton’s major destinations are spread across the hamlet. Suffolk County Community College’s Eastern Campus is here, along with much of Bald Hill County Park and Peconic Bog County Park; Hampton Hills Country Club adds another large land use. The daily map is defined by forest edges, county open space, a college campus, and the roads connecting them. There is no compact main street; errands and services connect outward to the surrounding hamlets.
