Northfield, MA

Set right along the northern border of Massachusetts, Northfield is a scenic, quiet community of fewer than 3,000 residents. It is the only town in the state that sits on both sides of the Connecticut River, giving it a unique geographic layout. On the eastern bank, a broad, tree-lined Main Street features historic homes, the local library, and small neighborhood gathering spots. Cross the bridge to the western side, and the setting shifts into rolling farmland, quiet back roads, and forested hills.

For newcomers, the main draw is the peaceful pace and direct access to nature. Northfield Mountain serves as a year-round outdoor hub with miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing, along with seasonal boat tours along the river gorge. The town offers a genuine small-town feel with plenty of open space, starry night skies, and a strong sense of community, all while remaining an easy drive from dining and shopping in nearby Greenfield and Brattleboro.
