Nunn, CO

Nunn sits on Weld County's eastern plains along the old Denver Pacific line between Cheyenne and Greeley. The town grew after the railroad arrived beside Maynard Flats, and the name came from Tom Nunn, a local homesteader who reportedly flagged down a train after finding a bridge on fire. Nunn's post office dates to 1905, and the town was incorporated in the early twentieth century as homesteaders and agricultural businesses filled out the surrounding land.

Today, the high-plains setting is still the whole backdrop: fields, irrigation, long county roads, and the Front Range far to the west. The Northern Drylanders Museum occupies the old municipal hall and keeps Weld County's small-town stories, photographs, and objects in circulation. The town's water tower and main streets give travelers a few strong landmarks, while Greeley, Fort Collins, and Cheyenne handle larger errands and employment connections. Nunn is a railroad-and-farm town whose daily scale stays small even as the surrounding agricultural network reaches across the plains.
