Oak Grove, AL

Oak Grove is a Talladega County town on both sides of Landers Hill, running along US 280 between Sylacauga and Childersburg. It incorporated in 1966, but its most famous moment arrived twelve years earlier, when a meteorite crashed through the roof of Ann Hodges's home, bounced off a radio, and struck her while she rested on the sofa. The Hodges meteorite is now at the Alabama Museum of Natural History in Tuscaloosa, while Oak Grove keeps the story local through its historic marker and the Comet Grove community garden.

US 280 is the town's practical spine, linking Oak Grove to Sylacauga, Birmingham, and the wider Talladega County road system. The town also provides a walking track, park pavilion, public transportation, and senior services, so the meteor story sits alongside the ordinary pieces of a small municipal life. Alabama Marble Company's quarry and Sylacauga's industries add the regional work context, while the hills give the town its physical shape. Oak Grove is a place people may first locate by the rock from the sky, but the week-to-week map is Highway 280, parks, services, and neighboring Sylacauga.
