Oak Grove, AL

Tucked into the rolling hills of Talladega County along Highway 280, Oak Grove sits right between Sylacauga and Childersburg. Most people know the town for a wild piece of history. Back in 1954, it became the only confirmed place where a meteorite struck a person after crashing through Ann Hodges’s roof while she was napping on the couch. The actual space rock is housed at the Alabama Museum of Natural History in Tuscaloosa, but the community honors its quirky heritage locally with a historic marker and the Comet Grove community garden.

Day to day, Oak Grove provides a quiet, neighborly pace of living with quick access to regional hubs. Highway 280 makes for an easy commute to Sylacauga's marble quarries and industrial employers, as well as Birmingham further up the road. The town takes good care of its residents with a community walking track, a park pavilion, local senior services, and convenient public transit.
