About Oak Grove
Oak Grove is a town in central Kaufman County, about four miles south of Kaufman, the county seat. The 2020 census counted 617 residents, and the town’s local government is a general-law Type B municipality incorporated in 1975. Its map is mostly residential and rural-road oriented, with Kaufman providing the courthouse, larger services, and nearby commercial connections. Oak Grove is small enough that the county line of work—roads, records, elections, health services, and public safety—shows up in everyday life even when the town’s own council handles local matters.
Students attend Kaufman Independent School District, whose campuses are in the city of Kaufman rather than Oak Grove. That sends school traffic north and keeps the two places tied together through the county-seat road network. Oak Grove’s municipal business runs through a mayor, alderpersons, posted council meetings, and a town address on FM 1388. There is no separate school campus or downtown district to define the place; its identity comes from the town boundary, the road to Kaufman, and the small-government work done close to home.
