About Oak Run

Oak Run is a Knox County census-designated place built around Spoon Lake, the 580-acre man-made lake at the center of the community. American Central began developing Oak Run in 1971 after assembling land from 27 owners, then dammed the site with a 61-foot earthen structure. Today the place is best understood as a lake community spread through Persifer and Copley townships, with water doing the organizing work. Oak Run is a Central Illinois place whose map starts with a planned development and ends at the shoreline.
