Ocean Beach is the main downtown hub of Fire Island, sitting on a narrow strip of land between the Great South Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Reached by a quick ferry from Bay Shore, the village is entirely car-free, meaning residents get around on foot, by bicycle, or with red wagons in tow. Between the lively strip of restaurants and shops, calm bayside docks, and wide ocean beaches, it offers the most walkable and active community on the island.
