Ocean, MD

Ocean is an Allegany County CDP on Maryland Route 936, the Upper Georges Creek Road, between Midland and Frostburg. The corridor passes Ocean Hill Road, Cabin Run Road, and Shaft Road before reaching Frostburg, giving the settlement a clear road-and-valley orientation. Georges Creek grew around coal mining and rail transport; mining employment peaked in the early twentieth century and fell sharply after 1950. Ocean’s present setting remains part of that former coal landscape, where Route 936 links valley communities to Frostburg and the broader Allegany County road network.
