About Odanah

Odanah is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Ashland County, Wisconsin, in Sanborn, United States, on the banks of the Bad River. The 2020 census counted 47 residents. Odanah is the cultural and administrative center of the Bad River Chippewa Band of the Chippewa. In local parlance, the names are used interchangeably. That mix gives Odanah a clear local shape within Wisconsin, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. A post office called Odanah has been in operation since 1855.
