About Superior
Superior is a northwestern Wisconsin city at the western end of Lake Superior, across the harbor from Duluth. Its first log cabin was built on the Nemadji River in 1853, as railroad ambitions and lake shipping began reshaping the area. Superior still feels like a port city, tied to Great Lakes freight, rail, industry, and cold-water geography. Downtown institutions such as the Superior Public Library add civic texture, while the harbor, bridges, and nearby rivers give the city its working waterfront character.
