Ohio City, OH

Ohio City is a village in Liberty Township, Van Wert County, western Ohio, a small place whose history is tucked inside a series of name changes. It was platted in 1876 as Van Wert Junction, then voted to become Enterprise in 1882. The second name caused trouble at the post office because another Enterprise already existed in Preble County, so the village eventually settled on Ohio City. The 2020 census counted 651, and the village sits in Van Wert's micropolitan orbit.

Lambert Days is the local tradition that gives the place its annual spark, held the third full weekend in July with a parade, car show, softball, and other events. Ohio City also has a branch of the Brumback Library, tying the village into Van Wert County's library network. The local scoop is that this is an Ohio village with a very Ohio naming story: a junction became Enterprise, Enterprise became confusing, and the town kept moving until Ohio City fit the mail, the map, and the community.
