Olcott, NY

Olcott is a hamlet and census-designated place in the Town of Newfane on Niagara County's Lake Ontario shore. Most locals call it Olcott Beach. Eighteen Mile Creek enters the lake here, forming a harbor described as the deepest on Lake Ontario west of Rochester. The 2020 census counted 1,072 residents, while the lakefront and summer calendar have long drawn visitors from the Buffalo-Niagara Falls region. Krull Park covers more than 325 acres along the water, with ballfields, courts, a splash park, and room for community events.

Olcott's resort years centered on the Olcott Beach Hotel, trolley rides, a carousel, and a bandstand. The hotel was demolished in 1937, but its foundation remains near the swimming beach. The Olcott Beach Carousel Park keeps the amusement tradition going with vintage rides, and the harbor's replica lighthouse gives the waterfront another recognizable marker. Olcott is part lake port, part beach hamlet, and part old resort ground: the creek, park, harbor, and amusement history all fit into the same shoreline.
