About Ormsby
Ormsby is a city in Watonwan and Martin counties in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The 2020 census counted 118 residents. The community is located between St. James and Sherburn on Minnesota State Highway 4. Ormsby was platted in 1899, and named after one "Colonel Ormsby, of Emmetsburg, Iowa ". Ormsby makes sense once you see how its past, landscape, and current gathering spots overlap. The useful thing to know about Ormsby is that its older landmarks and current settings belong to one connected place. A post office has been in operation at Ormsby since 1900. The city sits on the boundary between Watonwan County to the north and Martin County to the south. State Highway 4 passes through the east side of the city, leading north 10 miles to St. James, the Watonwan county seat, and south 14 miles to Sherburn.
