About Orting

Orting is a small Pierce County city in the Puyallup River valley, southeast of Tacoma and close to the foothills of Mount Rainier. The first recorded land claims in the area date to the 1850s, and the town still has a compact, valley-floor feel. Main City Park and the Foothills Trail give residents everyday outdoor space, while Rainier views are part of the local backdrop. Orting's setting is beautiful but also practical to understand, since the valley is part of Mount Rainier's lahar-risk planning area.
