Founded in 1811, Palestine is one of the oldest settlements in Illinois. It is a quiet Crawford County village of about 1,200 people, located just a short drive from the Wabash River and the Indiana border. Local legend says an early French explorer gave the town its name because the rolling countryside reminded him of the biblical Promised Land.
