Palm Beach Gardens, FL

PGA Boulevard crosses Palm Beach Gardens from western residential and commercial areas to schools, workplaces, Florida's Turnpike, Interstate 95, and the denser eastern side of the city. The city's 2025 traffic plan recorded about 70,500 vehicles per day on the boulevard near I-95 and found that PGA Boulevard accounted for nearly a quarter of local fatal and serious-injury crashes. That volume makes major intersections and highway access part of ordinary trip planning. A network of large roads distributes shopping, offices, recreation, and housing across the suburban landscape; there is no inherited town center. At the same time, the city reports that conservation land, protected areas, and other green space cover about half its territory, so developed corridors repeatedly meet lakes, preserves, golf courses, and landscaped setbacks.

The origin of that landscape is still visible in roads that bend around mature trees. Insurance magnate John D. MacArthur announced a 4,000-acre garden city on March 20, 1959, planned for 55,000 residents on former dairy-cattle land. His preferred name, Palm Beach City, was denied, so he chose Palm Beach Gardens. MacArthur directed construction crews to preserve mature pines, shade trees, and banyans even when doing so raised costs. The municipality came into existence on June 20, 1959. The city has since expanded far beyond the original tract, yet green-space requirements, environmental set-asides for new development, and an on-staff forester continue the tree-conscious approach in present land-use decisions. Golf helped establish the city's national profile.

MacArthur donated over $2 million after learning in 1964 that the Professional Golfers' Association was seeking a new home, and the organization moved into a local clubhouse in 1965. Although it left that property in 1972, tournament golf remains highly visible. The PGA Tour held the 2026 Cognizant Classic at PGA National's Champion Course from February 26 through March 1. Working life extends into corporate, medical, engineering, and research settings spread around the city. In 2026, the city's business pages list Zimmer Biomet, Dycom Industries, TBC Corporation, and Chromalloy as local headquarters. Municipal policy also supports bioscience and related industries through mapped development sites and permitting programs. These offices and technical facilities share the same road network as resorts, retail centers, and residential developments.

Community gathering is most predictable at the municipal campus on North Military Trail. The Gardens GreenMarket runs every Sunday year-round from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Its summer 2026 calendar paired produce, prepared food, flowers, handmade goods, and live music, while the 2026-27 main season was scheduled to begin October 4. Veterans Plaza Amphitheater and nearby recreation facilities add programs on the same campus. Farther west in Avenir, construction on Gardens Nature Park and Trail began in 2026, with completion projected for fall 2027, so that trail remains a forthcoming amenity. On Sunday mornings, market stalls and live music turn the grounds beside City Hall into a recurring civic square among the roads and preserved trees.
