About Palmer Ranch

Potter Park concentrates much of Palmer Ranch's public recreation on 37 acres. Its walking trails, playground, basketball courts, and tennis courts were joined in late 2024 by six lighted pickleball courts, shade structures, new connections for pedestrians, and resurfaced adjacent courts. A different outing begins at Culverhouse Nature Park, where shaded unpaved paths pass a community garden and meet the paved Legacy Trail. That regional path runs between Sarasota and the Venice Train Depot as a separated county corridor for bicycling, walking, and running. Sarasota County continued modifying the larger network in March 2026, opening a 1.5-mile parallel pedestrian path on part of the northern extension so walkers and cyclists have designated space in selected areas. The sports courts, natural paths, garden, and long paved corridor are all county-managed public facilities. Palmer Ranch's age and household profile differs sharply from a child-centered suburb.

The 2020 census recorded 14,966 residents, and 49.7 percent of residents were age 65 or older in the 2020-2024 estimates, compared with 9.1 percent under age 18. Average household size was 1.91, while 75.5 percent of occupied homes were owner-occupied. The median owner-occupied value reached $592,900, median monthly owner costs with a mortgage were $2,388, and median gross rent was $1,794. Median household income was $102,838; 56.4 percent of adults held at least a bachelor's degree, 18.0 percent of residents were foreign-born, and just 38.8 percent of residents age 16 or older were in the civilian labor force during 2020-2024. That demographic profile sits alongside a public recreation system weighted toward court sports, short nature walks, community gardening, and regional trail access.
