About Paradise

Paradise is a Wise County city on State Highway 114 southwest of Decatur, with Paradise ISD providing the school-centered core of town. The settlement began in the early 1870s as Eldorado, changed to Paradise Prairie when the post-office name was already taken, and later shortened the name to Paradise. The Rock Island line reached the area in 1893, and the town shifted toward the railroad, becoming a market for nearby farmers. The old town site and the later rail-era town now sit together in the local story, while City Hall and the school district keep the present-day map centered close to the original name. Paradise is a town whose identity was shaped by wildflowers, a refused post-office name, and a railroad a mile away.
