Parkin, AR

Right on the north edge of town where the St. Francis and Tyronza rivers meet, Parkin Archeological State Park serves as Parkin's most famous landmark. The grounds protect a large Native American village that thrived here for centuries, complete with a prominent ceremonial earth mound standing above the trees. It gives the area a fascinating historical backdrop you can easily explore whenever you have an hour to spare.

For day-to-day life, the park doubles as a great neighborhood recreation spot. A short walking trail loops past the mound, leading to a scenic river overlook, a shaded playground, and picnic areas. There is also a museum inside the visitor center and a boat launch for easy weekend fishing trips. Having a quiet, well-maintained state park right down the street adds plenty of green space and outdoor charm to life in Parkin.
