Parmelee, known in Lakota as Wósoso, is a small, tight-knit community of about 600 residents on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in south-central South Dakota. Originally established in the early 1900s as Cut Meat before taking the name of local rancher David Parmelee, the town carries deep roots and serves as an official tribal community within the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.
