Patten, ME

Patten is a census-designated place and the primary village in Patten, Penobscot County, Maine, United States. Patten is in the northeastern part of the town, mostly on the north side of Fish Stream, an eastward-flowing tributary of the West Branch Mattawamkeag River and part of the Penobscot River watershed. Maine State Route 11 passes through the village, leading north 47 miles to Ashland and south 9 miles to Sherman and Interstate 95. Patten makes sense once you see how its past, landscape, and current gathering spots overlap. The useful thing to know about Patten is that its older landmarks and current settings belong to one connected place. State Route 159 leads east 10 miles from Patten to Island Falls and the same distance northwest to Shin Pond. Patten was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.
