Payne Springs, TX

Payne Springs is a Henderson County town on the east side of Cedar Creek Reservoir, with State Highway 198 as its main road. The community takes its name from William K. Payne, who settled in the area in 1850; by the late 19th century it had a Methodist church, Baptist church, blacksmith, store, and gristmill and gin. The post office opened as Payne’s Spring in 1890 and changed to Payne Spring four years later. Today the lakefront and off-lake roads make the waterline the town’s clearest landmark.
