Pedricktown, NJ

Pedricktown is a census-designated place in Oldmans Township, Salem County, in the Delaware Valley. The settlement sits amid a rich farming section, and its name carries an older form: local county history records it first as Pedricksburg, named for pioneer Roger Pedrick. A thousand acres were surveyed to Pedrick in 1682. The town's position on local roads keeps it connected to Oldmans Township, whose municipal offices are in Pedricktown. The village also carries an old agricultural and Delaware River history into the present.

Roger Pedrick and his wife, Rebekah, were members of the Society of Friends who came to the Delaware Valley in the colonial period. Nearby marl beds once added another economic layer to the farm country. Today Pedricktown remains a village within a larger township map, with working fields, older roads, and the civic buildings of Oldmans Township gathered around it. Its story is less about a separate municipal boundary than about a named settlement that grew out of land, family, and the routes linking Salem County communities.
