About Pelahatchie

Pelahatchie is a Rankin County town named for Pelahatchie Creek, a winding stream whose name is often glossed as "crooked creek." The railroad arrived in 1858, G.F. Spann laid out the town in 1860, and cotton, groceries, hotels, and a school followed along the line. Pelahatchie incorporated in 1904, and Pelahatchie Attendance Center keeps the school connection current. This is central Mississippi in a creek-and-railroad shape, with the old A&V route still pointing to the town's location.
