Penitas, TX

Peñitas is a small, welcoming community tucked along the Rio Grande in western Hidalgo County, roughly 13 miles west of McAllen. Home to around 6,500 residents, it offers a laid-back, small-town atmosphere while staying within easy reach of the larger cities in the Valley. The town carries a deep sense of history, tracing its origins back to Spanish explorers in the 1520s, with a name that translates to “little stones.” Today, U.S. 83 runs straight through town, making daily commutes into Mission and McAllen quick and straightforward.
