Penryn, PA

Penryn is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Penn Township, Lancaster County, north of the township center. The 2010 census counted 1,024 residents. Its location puts it about six miles northeast of Manheim, six miles northwest of Lititz, and roughly thirteen miles north of Lancaster, so Penryn sits within a busy patchwork of Lancaster County towns while keeping a smaller community scale. That scale is typical of the smaller named places spread across this part of Lancaster County.

There is no separate municipal government or large downtown to define the place. Penryn is better read through its roads, neighboring villages, and the farms and homes that fill the township around it. Penn Township adopted a community action plan for Penryn in 2013, reflecting an effort to keep the village’s history in view as the surrounding county changes. That gives the place a useful local distinction: it is small in formal status, but it still has a name, a boundary, and a story within the larger Lancaster County landscape.
