Perryopolis, PA

Perryopolis is designed around a classic circular town square known as Washington Diamond, where Liberty and Independence streets meet. The area's history traces back to George Washington, who bought land along the Youghiogheny River in the 1770s and built a stone gristmill that still stands as a local landmark. Named in honor of naval hero Oliver Hazard Perry, the town grew through western Pennsylvania's coal-and-coke boom before settling into a quiet residential rhythm. Much of the community's civic infrastructure comes courtesy of hometown benefactor Mary Fuller Frazier, whose mid-century trust helped build the schools, paved roads, and parks residents enjoy today.
