Peru, IL

Set along the Illinois River in north-central Illinois, Peru is a friendly community of roughly 10,000 people that shares a close bond with neighboring LaSalle. The town got its start as a busy steamboat port at the western terminus of the Illinois and Michigan Canal, later becoming a manufacturing hub famous for making Westclox clocks. Today, that past is reflected in local historic sites and a dedicated museum, while residential streets offer quiet, affordable neighborhoods with a classic Midwestern feel.

Living in Peru comes with great regional connectivity, thanks to the intersection of Interstate 80 and Interstate 39 on the north side of town. The city serves as a retail and commercial hub for the surrounding Illinois Valley, giving residents quick access to grocery stores, restaurants, medical facilities, and good public schools like LaSalle-Peru High School. For weekends and outdoor downtime, you have riverfront parks right in town and the popular trails of Starved Rock State Park just a short drive down the road.
