Peru, NY

Peru is a Clinton County hamlet and census-designated place with 1,843 residents in the 2020 census, inside the larger Town of Peru south of Plattsburgh. The Little Ausable River runs through the community on its way east to Lake Champlain, while the Adirondack Mountains rise to the west. The name fits the view: broad farm country and mountain horizons give this small place a landscape that feels bigger than its population. Daily life leans on the Town of Peru and nearby Plattsburgh, with Route 9 and local roads carrying people toward jobs, schools, and the lake.

The east side of the town reaches Lake Champlain, and Vermont sits across the water, so the regional map has a cross-lake edge as well as a north-south one.
