Plattsburgh, NY

Plattsburgh is a North Country city on Lake Champlain, across the water from Vermont and close to the Canadian border. The Saranac River runs east toward the lake, giving the area a natural corridor through town and surrounding communities. Plattsburgh has a long civic and military history, plus a SUNY campus, downtown streets, and lakefront access. It feels like a regional hub for northeastern New York: colder, more remote, and more border-oriented than upstate cities farther south.
