Pettit, OK

Pettit is a Cherokee County community on the southeastern edge of Lake Tenkiller, where the lake's coves and wooded shoreline set the geography. The unincorporated community took its name from Mark and Eliza Pettit, townsite allottees, and now sits across the water from Pettit Bay Public Use Area. The place is tied to the lake more than to a traditional town center: roads run through scattered homes and wooded lots, while the reservoir opens the landscape toward Cherokee County's larger recreation network.

At Pettit Bay, the lake supplies the day-to-day draw—boating, swimming, fishing, camping, and watching the shoreline change with the seasons. Tenkiller State Park, Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge, and Tahlequah are all within the wider regional orbit, giving Pettit access to parks, wildlife country, and Cherokee Nation history. Pettit is a small Oklahoma CDP whose character is geographic and specific: a named settlement with an allotment-era name, a public-use area across the lake, and Lake Tenkiller forming its southeastern edge.
