About Philipsburg

Philipsburg is Granite County's seat, platted in 1867 by mining engineer Philip Deidesheimer around an ore smelter. The town still points back to the silver camps that surrounded it: Granite Ghost Town is a few miles away, and the Granite County Museum occupies the historic Courtney Hotel with a Ghost Town Hall of Fame and mining exhibit. Montana Highway 1 runs through town, tying Philipsburg to the Flint Creek valley and the scattered mining history of the county. Philipsburg is western Montana where the county seat keeps its prospecting past on the front shelf.
