About Pineville

Pineville is the McDonald County seat in southwest Missouri, seven miles north of Arkansas at the junction where Big Sugar Creek and Little Sugar Creek form the Elk River. That water meeting gives the city its shape: Pineville's courthouse and city hall sit near the square, while river access and campgrounds extend through the surrounding valley. The 2020 census counted 802 residents.

City offices, the McDonald County Library, community center, walking trail, and Pineville Pumptrail & Bike Park form the town's current civic map. The city also lists annual events including Jesse James Days, a fall festival, and a lighted Christmas parade. U.S. Route 71 runs west of town, connecting Pineville with Anderson and the wider southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas area. The courthouse square remains the place where county business is closest to the town's river recreation and schools. Pineville is a county-seat river city where courthouse business, water recreation, and county institutions meet at the edge of the Ozarks.
