Pinos Altos, NM

Pinos Altos sits about eight miles north of Silver City, tucked up into the mountains along the Continental Divide at around 7,000 feet. Named for the tall ponderosa pines surrounding it, the town got its start in 1860 when prospectors struck gold along Bear Creek. It quickly grew into a bustling boomtown and even served as the original Grant County seat before settling into the quiet, rustic mountain community it is today.
