About Plain

Plain began as a small inland village known as Logtown, with a store, blacksmith shop, saloon, and three houses by 1882. It secured a village charter in 1912, then built the municipal pieces that still give the place its shape: a pool in 1957, library in 1964, and municipal building with a fire station, meeting hall, and village offices in 1966. Westbrook Hills Golf Course followed in the 1970s. The physical setting is Sauk County’s Franklin Township, with Wisconsin 23 and County Road B carrying traffic through the village.

Plain’s calendar and civic identity run through its German Catholic heritage. St. Luke’s Parish Sommerfest, the July fire-department and EMS celebration, Strassenfest, and Christkindlmarkt give the Main Street area recurring dates for food, music, crafts, parades, and German hymns. The village’s local history museum adds another stop in that circuit. Plain’s map is compact: pool, library, fire station, golf course, parish, and seasonal festivals sit on top of a village structure that has been in place since the early 20th century.
