Plains is a quiet, tight-knit community in southwestern Kansas with a distinctive claim to fame right down the center of town. Grand Avenue was laid out to be exceptionally wide, measuring over 150 feet across, and features a unique raised brick walkway running straight down the median. Known locally as Simon's Monument, this three-block promenade gives the downtown area a memorable, historic character and offers a pleasant spot for a stroll.
