Plantersville, TX

Plantersville grew in southeastern Grimes County at the meeting point of State Highway 105, Farm Road 1774, and the Santa Fe rail line. Settlers arrived in the 1830s, a post office came in 1856, and stores, churches, schools, cotton gins, and mills followed. The community’s early history also includes enslaved labor and the difficult postwar work of churches serving freedpeople. Rail service in 1879 tied Plantersville to Navasota and the wider Texas network, while the name honored the planters who had established farms around the site. Residents voted to incorporate the city in 2017.

The town’s calendar now has a remarkable seasonal swing. Most of the year, Plantersville is a Grimes County community served by Navasota Independent School District, with homes, farm roads, local businesses, and nearby Todd Mission shaping ordinary routines. During the Texas Renaissance Festival season, the same roads carry a huge influx of visitors, vendors, performers, and temporary work. That contrast gives Plantersville a distinctive rhythm: a small agricultural town whose rail junction and festival grounds connect it to audiences from across the region.
