About Plentywood

Plentywood is Sheridan County’s seat in far northeastern Montana, with Boxelder Lake north of town and Brush Lake State Park in the surrounding country. Its history has a frontier edge: Sitting Bull and his band surrendered near the present town in 1881, and Butch Cassidy’s cattle-rustling trail reportedly ran through the area toward Canada. The more current map is agricultural, with Plentywood serving as a center for pulse-crop processing since 2005 and Columbia Grain operating a facility here. Plentywood is a Montana county seat where the old stories run toward the border, while the newer ones arrive in bags of pulse crops.
