Point Marion, PA

Point Marion occupies the angle where the Monongahela and Cheat rivers meet in Fayette County, less than a mile north of West Virginia. The 2020 census counted 1,152 residents. U.S. 119 crosses the borough, connecting it north to Uniontown and south to Morgantown, while the river junction makes the community a natural crossing point. The town was laid out through a public lot sale in 1842; the buyer of Lot No. 1 named it for Francis Marion, the Revolutionary War officer known as the Swamp Fox.

The borough’s present map keeps the water at the center. Point Marion Community Park sits at the south end of Main Street beside the Monongahela, with a boat launch, dock, fishing access, courts, playground, pavilions, and a walking path. The Sheepskin Trail passes through town, Friendship Hill Elementary and Albert Gallatin South Middle School are on New Geneva Road, and the Point Marion Library is on Ontario Street. Three miles north, Friendship Hill National Historic Site preserves Albert Gallatin’s former estate. The result is a river borough whose daily institutions and historic destinations all point back to the same valley.
