Pollocksville, NC

Pollocksville sits on the Trent River in Jones County, fifteen miles from New Bern on US 17. The town began as Trent Bridge, was chartered in 1834, and took its name from George Pollock, a large landowner. German Palatines and colonists from Bern, Switzerland settled the area, and the river made Pollocksville a steamboat landing for planters, merchants, crops, and supplies. Mill Creek meets the Trent here, adding a small waterway to the town's river setting.

That river history still organizes the town's map. US 17 and NC 58 carry the road traffic, while the Trent remains tied to fishing and boating access. Pollocksville's historic landscape includes the Bryan-Bell Farm, Foscue Plantation House, Bryan Lavender House, and other homes and plantations along the surrounding roads. Jones County's current economy remains rooted in farming and timber, so the town sits where a former water route, a coastal highway, and an agricultural county meet. Town Hall remains at 314 Main Street, close to the road-and-river center.
