About Pooler

Pooler's position at the meeting of Interstates 95 and 16 makes transportation the through-line between its railroad past and its recent growth. The city is ten miles west of Savannah and within two miles of Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. It was named in 1838 for Captain Robert William Pooler, who worked on a feasibility study for the Central of Georgia Railroad. During the Civil War, Pooler's Station was the last rail stop before Savannah; Union officers met Savannah authorities there in December 1864 while arranging the port city's peaceful surrender. Pooler incorporated in 1907 with 337 residents. For 2020-2024, 60 percent of occupied homes were owner-occupied, the median owner-occupied value was $322,400, monthly mortgage costs were $1,845, and median gross rent was $1,671. Public recreation is spread among several sites. The Pooler Recreation Complex has ballfields, three playgrounds, tennis and pickleball courts, a stadium, and picnic areas, while Pooler Park adds gymnasiums and outdoor basketball courts.

Chatham County's 200-acre Tom Triplett Park surrounds a 19-acre fishing lake with a 1.5-mile paved loop and also provides playgrounds, tennis, disc golf, pavilions, and a fenced dog area. The city's dated 2026 calendar places an Independence Day music and drone show, an October trunk-or-treat, and a November tree lighting and movie at municipal facilities. On Bourne Avenue, the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force opens Tuesday through Sunday. Its exhibits include a restored B-17 named City of Savannah, original aircraft and engines, interactive navigator and gunner stations, films about a bombing mission, memorial gardens, and a research center. Pooler's 2026 Memorial Day remembrance ceremony was also scheduled at the museum.
