Poquonock Bridge, CT

Poquonock Bridge is a village and census-designated place in Groton, just east of the head of the Poquonnock River where U.S. 1 and Connecticut 117 meet. James Morgan, James Avery, and Nehemiah Smith settled the village in 1652–53, and the old farm-and-river pattern still sits underneath the roads. Groton Town Hall is here, as is the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church, whose history reaches back to the nineteenth century. Poquonock Bridge is a Connecticut place that sounds like a single crossing but carries a much older village story.
