Port Gamble Tribal Community, WA

Port Gamble Tribal Community is a census-designated place corresponding to the Port Gamble S'Klallam Reservation in northern Kitsap County. The reservation lies along the east side of Port Gamble Bay, an embayment of Hood Canal, and includes Little Boston. The community's setting is shaped by saltwater, forest, shellfish beds, and the short roads connecting the reservation to Poulsbo, Kingston, and the rest of the Kitsap Peninsula.

The Port Gamble S'Klallam people have lived, fished, hunted, and gathered across the Hood Canal region for thousands of years. Their history includes the disruption of the nineteenth-century timber era, forced movement across Port Gamble Bay, and the long effort to secure a reservation and protect tribal community. Today tribal government, cultural programs, environmental work, fishing, and family life all meet around Little Boston and the bay. The bay remains a working landscape for tribal families. Port Gamble Tribal Community is a reservation community with a deep marine geography and a living S'Klallam presence at the center of the peninsula.
