Porterdale started out as a bustling 19th-century textile community along the Yellow River, growing into one of Georgia’s best-preserved historic mill villages. For decades, its massive brick mills churned out cotton rope and twine, even supplying most of the cordage used by the U.S. Navy during World War II.
